Under the Rug Exposed is a faith-based nonprofit dedicated to shedding light on child abuse.

Founded in response to the urgent need to prevent the silent suffering of children, Under the Rug Exposed empowers children to speak up and equips adults with the tools they need to take action. Children often suffer in silence, not only because of fear but also because adults may lack the proper knowledge and resources to support and respond effectively.

Though we educate communities at large, we primarily focus on educating the church community because the church is often a trusted pillar in families'.

As a faith-based organization, we believe carry the burden of breaking the silence around abuse and ensuring the safety of all God's children.

Child Abuse Should Never Be Swept Under the Rug

The phrase "swept under the rug" accurately depicts what is happening when it comes to the subject of child abuse—an issue that is often ignored, hidden, or minimized, despite its devastating impact. The reality is that abuse is occurring in spaces that are supposed to be safe—homes, churches, schools—yet many of these spaces, whether knowingly or unknowingly, perpetuate the silence around it. This silence is often rooted in fear, discomfort, or cultural pressures, preventing children from speaking out and adults from acting. The truth is that abuse thrives when it's hidden, but we must break this cycle and ensure that no child suffers in silence.

That’s why Under the Rug Exposed was founded in 2022—to pull back the rug and shine a light on what’s been hidden for too long. When children are empowered to speak and adults are equipped to respond, healing can begin. Abuse continues to persist because of family titles, political positions, and societal norms that put reputation over protection. But by confronting these barriers, we can create a world where every child is seen, heard, and safe—where abuse can no longer hide behind fear, power, or ignorance.
